The Martingale betting system is the most famous and popular of all existing roulette strategies. It is also one of the oldest ways to play roulette in practice. There is historical evidence that long before the invention of roulette, this system was successfully used by many people in the games existing at that time. Roulette game according to the Martingale system takes place by betting on simple odds (red / black; even / odd; high / low numbers). In the classic example, to clarify the system, a bet is usually chosen on the color of the winning number. However, the choice of the type of simple odds depends only on the player’s personal preferences. The Martingale system will work the same for all types of roulette bets, the winnings on which are paid 1 to 1.
There is no consensus regarding the history of the origin of the name of the system. Most likely, the term comes from the French “martingale”. A martingale in equestrian business has long been called a special rein in a bridle, the limitation of the length of which does not allow a violent horse to lift its head up or stand on its hind legs – and thereby injure or throw the rider out of the saddle. In part, this really resembles the essence of this roulette strategy, associated with a constant increase in rates: if the player has a sufficient pot margin, the Martingale betting system allows you to compensate for a series of consecutive losses, remaining at the end of each such series with its own or in a small plus.
Martingale strategy betting rules:
Based on the size of his pot and the limits of bets on simple odds for a particular roulette table, the player determines the size of the base bet for himself. Then he makes this base bet on any of the simple odds.
- In case of victory, the player takes the winnings to his bank and again makes a bet equal to the base one on the same position.
- In case of a loss, the player repeats the bet on the same position, while doubling its size.
In the event of a series of consecutive losses, the player’s bet will increase exponentially in increments of 2. For this reason, Martingale is also called a progressive roulette strategy.
In theory, the Martingale betting system should guarantee the player a win-win game. Since the odds of any opposite odds (for example, black and red) are always the same, a losing streak cannot last forever. And doubling the bet after each failure compensates for the entire previous sequence of losses, and after waiting for the first win, as a result the player gets a plus in one base bet.
However, in real practice, there are at least two difficulties that every Martingale player should definitely pay attention to.
The first obstacle to a guaranteed successful game is the limited financial resources of the player. A rapid increase in the value of the bet in the event of a long series of failures can quickly exhaust the reserve of the playing bank. For example, with a base bet of $ 1, a sequence of 10 losses in a row would require for the eleventh time a bet more than 1000 times the base.
- First bet: 1 currency unit
- Second bet: 2 currency units
- Third rate: 4 currency units
- Fourth bet: 8 currency units
- Fifth rate: 16 currency units
- Sixth rate: 32 currency units
- Seventh bet: 64 currency units
- Eighth bet: 128 currency units
- Ninth rate: 256 currency units
- Tenth bet: 512 currency units
- For the eleventh bet, you need 1024 currency units
Only the correct bankroll management, as well as the correct choice of the size of the base bet, can solve this problem. To play on the Martingale system, the total bank allocated for the game must exceed the base rate by at least 30-50 times. Obviously, the greater this difference, the stronger the player’s bank will be in front of protracted succession of losses, and the greater the chances of a successful outcome of the game.
Another problem is that any casino takes action beforehand against players using progressive systems. These measures consist in a simple limitation of the minimum and maximum betting limits on the roulette table. For example, by limiting the minimum bet to $ 10 and the maximum to $ 300, the casino makes it difficult to play according to the rules of the Martingale strategy even for a series of five consecutive losses.
For the player, there are several acceptable ways out of this situation at once:
First, of course, you should choose institutions and specific tables with the widest possible range of bets for the game.
Secondly, when the required bet begins to exceed the maximum for simple odds, the player can always deliver the desired numbers directly across the playing field (for example, in the straight up position of all red numbers). Exceeding the maximum in this way is usually not against the rules of the casino.
Thirdly, the player can use his friends for the game, dividing his bank between them and stipulating in advance the situations in which his assistants should supplement the player’s bets exceeding the maximum of the table.
And if in some land-based gambling houses such a contractual game for a common bank is prohibited by the rules, then in the case of online casinos, there is no way to control or prohibit such an approach to the game. Also, based on the Martingale system, several other, newer, roulette game systems have been created, which are designed to help the player win the game.
American Martingale is a variation of the popular strategy that is used in the case of third-odds betting. Often used in roulette for dozen bets. The peculiarity of the strategy is that the rate is doubled with each loss. The doubling continues until the first win, then the increase starts again from the beginning (1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, etc.). It is possible to earn money when applying the strategy only when playing the game at short distances (up to 10 bets). The level of risk is high, but it is covered by the amount of the winnings.
Anti-martingale is another type of game strategy that is fundamentally different from the classic one. The essence of the method is that for each win, you need to double the bet, and if you lose, return to the original bet.
For example, you start with a $ 10 bet. The first bet turned out to be a winning one, as a result, on the second call, you need to raise the bet to $ 20. If the bet is not played, the third game starts again with a bet of $ 10.
The peculiarity of the strategy – throughout the game, bets are made only on one specific number. In this case, the size of the bet doubles after a certain number of spins. During one game, 81 spins are made, bets are distributed as follows in case of loss:
- The first 35 spins is the minimum bet;
- Spins without a win from 36 to 53 – double the bet;
- From 54 to 65 spin without a win – tripling of the bet;
- From 66 to 74 spins – an increase in the initial bet by 4 times;
- From 75 to 81 spins – an increase in the rate by 5 times.
According to the calculated probability, the number you have chosen will necessarily fall out at least 1 time in 80 spins. As a result, the amount won will cover the costs. If the bet is played before the end of the cycle, select a new number and start the cycle from the very beginning.
